1st International Conference on NTDs in Africa, 2019
Dates: 4-6 Dec 2019
Location: Nairobi, Kenya
Registration closes: 20 Nov 2019
The 1st International Conference on NTDs (IncoNTD) in Africa is being jointly organized with the 13th Kenya Ministry of Health and KEMRI Annual NTD Conference from December 4 – 6, 2019 at Radisson Blu Hotel in Nairobi, Kenya. The theme; “Cross-border partnership towards achieving control and elimination of NTDs” is based on the recognition that success in control and elimination of NTDs in any country requires cooperation beyond its borders. IncoNTD aims to bring together national and international stakeholders involved in the control and elimination of NTDs in Africa and beyond. IncoNTD has scientific and business components and provides a unique face-to-face meeting ground for various stakeholders and interest groups involved in NTD work to foster coordination, develop synergies and complementarities, and avoid unnecessary duplication. The conference will have both plenary and scientific sessions and focus on the following among others:
Strengthening Government ownership, advocacy, coordination and partnerships
Connecting basic research and clinical trials for drugs, vaccines and diagnostics to control efforts
Translating research into policy, advocacy, and community engagement
Operational and implementation research in NTD control and elimination
Access to interventions, treatment and service delivery
Monitoring and evaluation, surveillance and research on NTD control and elimination
Who should attend?
IncoNTD provides a unique opportunity for policy makers, implementers, researchers from different disciplines, students, funders and other NTD stakeholders who work on NTDs in Africa to come together under one forum to share their work and ideas in an organized fashion. IncoNTD offers an exclusive platform for Africa-focussed NTD actors to network and update each other on their work face-to-face, as participants interact in workshops and discussion groups.
The 1st International conference on NTDs (IncoNTD) in Africa is jointly organized by the Kenya Ministry of Health (MoH), the Kenya Medical Research Institute (KEMRI), and the African Research Network for Neglected Tropical Diseases (ARNTD). The Kenya Ministry of Health through the Neglected Tropical Diseases Unit and KEMRI have been organizing annual NTD conferences for the past twelve years. These meetings have brought together Kenyan researchers, policy makers and implementers to review progress in NTD control and elimination and to discuss gaps and propose new approaches to achieving success. Collaboration with the African Research Network for Neglected Tropical Diseases through IncoNTD provides an opportunity for synergy by raising the international profile of the 13th Kenya MoH and KEMRI Annual NTD Conference, while providing good traction for future iterations of IncoNTD by the ARNTD.
