The Structural and Computational Biology (SCB) Unit at EMBL Heidelberg pursues an ambitious research programme in integrated structural and computational systems biology, bridging between various temporal and spatial scales, from molecules to ecosystems. The Unit seeks to recruit an outstanding group leader to address fundamental questions in structural, molecular or cellular biology.
Your role
Establish an independent and innovative research programme. Research areas can be as diverse as (high-throughput) biochemistry (e.g. characterization of protein-protein interactions, ribosome profiling, enzymology), integrated structural biology, biophysics (e.g. single-molecule approaches to study protein dynamics, cellular phase-separation), chemical biology (e.g. protein labeling, sensors and switches, development of small molecules to control biological functions), proteomics (e.g. top-down or bottom-up proteomics, post-translational modifications), synthetic biology (e.g. introducing new functionalities in biological macromolecules) or a mixture thereof. The research should interface with or contribute to systemic approaches in structural biology, a concept that the unit is pursuing, in conjunction with a strong computational biology programme.
You have
We expect that fundamental biological or methodological questions are addressed and that the successful candidate will complement and synergize with the existing activities of the SCB Unit. You should therefore demonstrate a strong motivation to work in the collaborative and multidisciplinary environment of EMBL.
Why join us
