To play a key role in supporting the Director of Policy, Ethics and Governance and the Programme Manager for Policy, Ethics and Governance to provide independent, pro-active support for the MRC Council, Operations Board and MRC Ethics Regulation and Public Involvement Committee (ERPIC) and management of retained governance & compliance responsibilities.
Responsibilities:
Assist the Programme Manager for Policy, Ethics and Governance in providing the secretariat for the MRC’s Council. Activities include:
- working with the Executive Chair’s private office to set dates for the MRC Council meetings and Chair’s brief meetings and securing internal and external venues
- commissioning and editing papers and managing the approval process
- assisting in preparing the agenda, Chair’s brief and collating updates from the Executive to report to Council
- working with Strategy Board secretariat to organise the joint Council/Strategy Board meetings
- ensuring a programme of regular appraisal of members is in place and proper records of meetings are kept, and that an annual self-assessment of Council is conducted
- reviewing and updating the MRC website and intranet content relating to Council, including ensuring Council membership, conflicts of interest and biographies are up to date
- management of the MRC Council secretariat inbox, escalating issues when appropriate
- provide support to the Programme Manager for new Council member recruitment and induction in conjunction with colleagues across UKRI
- Ethics, Regulation and Public Involvement Committee (ERPIC)
- pro-actively manage the organisation and running of the Council subcommittee for ethics (ERPIC). Activities include: planning agendas, keeping abreast of key internal and external issues; commissioning and circulating papers; alerting relevant staff to deadlines; negotiating the submission of papers as necessary; attending meetings; and assist in drafting minutes and co-ordinating actions and feedback as appropriate
- provide support for the Programme Manager for new member recruitment and induction.
