The UK Research and Innovation Future Leaders Fellowships (FLF) will grow the strong supply of talented individuals needed to ensure that UK research and innovation continues to be world leading.
This UK Research and Innovation (UKRI) scheme will support early career researchers and innovators with outstanding potential in universities, UK registered businesses, and other research and user environments including research councils' institutes and laboratories. UKRI invites applicants to form a UKRI Future Leaders Fellowships Panel College.
Applications are welcome from across the UKRI remit, with the aim to build a College which includes experience in all areas of research and innovation, and across universities, research organisations and businesses. This College will form a key part of identifying the best UK and international early career researchers and innovators; and the best proposals for use of the special Fellowships support we are offering.
Members appointed will be asked to take part in the panels that sift applications, making recommendations on which applicants should be invited to the interview stage of the process, and take part in the subsequent interview panels. The organisation of panels will be responsive to the applications in each round. Some of the College will be asked to join panels for several rounds, to ensure consistency; others will be asked to join around one panel per year, based on applicant demand.
Candidates must have significant experience or understanding of assessing the quality and validity of major research and innovation projects across a range of areas, beyond their own specialist area, and experience of assessing interdisciplinary and multidisciplinary research will also be valuable. Previous experience of assessing through interview panels is helpful but not essential.
UKRI aims to ensure a good diversity of Panel College members in terms of protected characteristics, career stage, background, discipline, host organisation and location. Therefore, international and industry-based applications are particularly welcomed, as well as those from within UK universities and independent research organisations.
Training will be provided for successful College applicants, initially including unconscious bias training, familiarisation with the scheme and guidance on treatment of interdisciplinary proposals.
