Laboratory Research Assistant

Applications are invited for the post of Laboratory Research Assistant to the Oxford Vaccine Group, part of the Department of Paediatrics in the Medical Scieneces Division.
The Oxford Vaccine Group Laboratory, under the direction of Professor Pollard is staffed by 23 research staff including technical, undergraduate, graduate and postdoctoral scientists. The job requires flexibility in working hours, including potentially some weekend work. Research projects include:
• evaluation of immune responses to vaccines in children and adults;
• understanding of the nature of immunological memory;
• development of a novel vaccines and pre-clinical studies;
• genetics of the immune response to vaccines;
• natural and vaccine-induced immunity to Salmonella Typhi;
• invasive bacterial infections in South Asia.
The successful candidate will be working in containment level 2 and containment level 3 laboratories for the receipt, tracking, storage/archiving of study related samples such as serum, peripheral blood mononuclear cells, urine, saliva, and stool specimens. You will conduct all laboratory work to the standards expected from Good Laboratory Practice and OVG quality management guidelines which will include compliance with Human Tissue Authority (HTA) and Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency (MHRA) regulations.
The successful candidate will have practical laboratory/clinical laboratory experience and will be able to work as a member of a team.
