Introduction
Reporting to the project leader, the research technician works independently and in the team to meet research project objectives and milestones. As a member of a busy team, the incumbent will assist in carrying out bench analyses in virology, immunology, and molecular biology, adhering to established protocols and biosafety procedures.
This is a full-time, 12 month term position with a possibility of an extension depending upon performance and availability of funds.
Position
Carry out animal and human cell culture, primary cells, and stem cells, including tumor cells, cell isolation, animal and human tissue cryosectioning, immunohistochemistry, conventional PCR and RT-qPCR, Sanger and next-generation sequencing, virus isolation/titration, and serology. Troubleshooting techniques and assisting in the development of protocols, processing blood and tissue samples. Ordering reagents and waste autoclaving. Willingness to work with animals (mice) is desirable, but not essential. The candidate should be comfortable working with animal and human pathogens and undergo training for level 3 pathogen work if required.
The candidate must be highly motivated, creative, and diligent. The successful candidate will be required to undergo and clear a reliability status screening assessment, background check, and a criminal record check as a condition of employment.

Required Skills
A technician diploma and one year of relevant experience. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
