Assistant Professor in Pathobiology of Disease

The Department of Laboratory Medicine and Pathobiology at the University of Toronto invites applications for a tenure-stream position in pathobiology of disease. The appointment is at the rank of Assistant Professor, with an expected start date of July 1, 2018.

They seek a candidate who will develop an outstanding, innovative and independent research program to address fundamental biological questions including those pertinent to development and disease. The successful candidate will complement the Department’s existing research strengths in cellular and molecular biology, microbiology, systems biology, functional genomics and proteomics, informatics, and translational research as applied to human disease. They also encourage applicants interested in emerging, such as artificial intelligence, or interdisciplinary areas of research.

Applicants must have a Ph.D. degree in the area of biology of health or mechanisms of disease or a related field, at least 2 years of postdoctoral experience, and an established record of research excellence as demonstrated by publications in leading journals in the field, presentations at significant conferences, awards, and strong endorsement by referees of high stature. The successful candidate is expected to mount an original, competitive and independently funded research program, and to develop an excellent teaching program at the undergraduate and graduate level. Additionally, the successful candidate must demonstrate teaching excellence as evidenced by performance as a mentor to students, teaching assistant, and/or leading successful workshops or seminars. Salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.
