The Department of Bacteriology are seeking a scientist or veterinarian with project management experience to lead a project on vaccination of cattle against tuberculosis. The overall aim is to obtain marketing authorisation of cattle BCG vaccine and an associated DIVA skin test. The post holder will be involved in all aspects of the project, providing essential leadership, coordination and input into all areas of the programme; but most critically oversight of ongoing the field trials. This will include the practical steps involved in successful delivery of the project including procurement, tendering and leading the liaison with the Contract Research Organisation delivering the field trials.
Responsibilities will include project delivery, project management, stakeholder management, risk management and monitoring project performance. The post holder must have significant experience in delivering complex or high-risk projects within an agreed time, cost and quality constraints as well as a strong, relevant scientific/veterinary background. The post holder will work collaboratively with scientific and business colleagues across the APHA, Defra and other external stakeholders, including management and oversight of field trials undertaken by external providers.
We are looking for experienced applicants with a relevant PhD or a qualified Veterinarian with relevant experience. Enthusiastic and self-motivated applicants with excellent verbal and written communication skills are invited; they should be an experienced people manager and have experience in managing complex relationships. The post-holder will facilitate critical and high-profile decisions by consensus through effective coordination of a high performing and motivated project team.
