To provide an up-to-date overview of the disease, the Institut Pasteur has created a MOOC dedicated to Tuberculosis. This course will provide a knowledge base that goes from the basics of TB to the current state of knowledge on various aspects of tuberculosis: the clinical picture, epidemiology, pediatric TB, factors affecting susceptibility to the disease, including HIV, diabetes and human genetics, immunology, vaccines, diagnosis, current and future ways to detect drug resistance, and how to treat drug sensitive and multi-drug resistant strains. It will also discuss clinically important non-tuberculous mycobacterial infections and how to diagnose and treat them. It will present recent advances in molecular techniques for diagnosis and drug sensitivity testing, including Whole Genome Sequencing, and the new, shorter and more effective treatment regimens to cure Multi-Drug Resistant TB.
The course is free and aims at providing a broad overview of the current state of knowledge about tuberculosis for physicians, nurses and other health and public health workers, microbiologists, pharmacists, researchers and students. It will serve as a valuable update for people working with tuberculosis, a thorough introduction for those who are new to the field and a great opportunity for all those who want to broaden their understanding of the disease.
