Postdoctoral position - Immunology of TB
Employer: The Emory Vaccine Center, Atlanta, USA
Group: Associate Prof Jyothi Rengarajan
An NIH-funded position for an outstanding post-doctoral candidate is available immediately in the laboratory of Dr. Jyothi Rengarajan at the Emory Vaccine Center, Emory University School of Medicine in Atlanta, GA. Motivated individuals with backgrounds in immunology and experience working with mouse models and multi-parameter flow cytometry are encouraged to apply. Applicants should have obtained a PhD degree with the last 5 years and have strong speaking and writing skills. Experience with working in a BSL3 setting is preferred but not essential.
Research in our lab focuses on mechanisms of host immunity to tuberculosis in animal models and humans. Projects in the lab use immunological, microbiological, and global approaches to study innate and antigen-specific T cell responses to Mycobacterium tuberculosis infection. We also conduct human cohort studies aimed at understanding correlates of protective immunity and biomarkers of infection.
The postdoc candidate will work on the mouse model of TB to better understand crosstalk between dendritic cells and T cells during M. tuberculosis infection with an emphasis on mucosal immunity in the lung with the ultimate goal of identifying immunotherapeutic targets and ways to augment vaccine induced immunity to TB. In addition to mouse models, the individual will also conduct complementary immunological studies on samples obtained from human cohort studies through ongoing collaborations.
