Research Fellow in Host-Pathogen Interactions
Employer: University of Surrey, UK
Salary: £31,604-34,520
A Wellcome Trust funded post-doctoral research assistant/research fellow position is available to join the thriving and diverse laboratory of Dr Rachel Simmonds. The group has a strong international reputation with collaborations in Ghana, Switzerland, Germany and the USA.
The research is based in the Department of Microbial Sciences in the School of Biosciences and Medicine at the University of Surrey, Stag Hill campus. All post-docs at Surrey are automatically members of our Doctoral College that supports the academic and professional development of postgraduate and early career researchers.
The research programme studies the molecular and cellular biology of Buruli ulcer (a devastating “flesh-eating” skin infection), particularly with regard to the activity of its diffusible toxin, mycolactone. Due to its lipid-like nature, mycolactone acts on host cells completely independently of the bacteria as it permeates through the skin tissue.
We are seeking to recruit an enthusiastic and committed post-doctoral eukaryotic/mammalian biologist to join our team investigating the host-pathogen response.
The ideal candidate for this post would have a PhD (or be close to completion) in eukaryotic/mammalian Biochemistry, Molecular Biology, Cell Biology, Immunology or closely allied subject. We would be particularly keen to hear from those with proven proficiency in a range of mammalian molecular, cell biology and protein biochemistry techniques, or those with experience of in vivowork.
