This post is an exciting opportunity to work supporting the VetHub1 Laboratory Manager. Initially, this work will help bring the facility into operation. Once the facility is operational the post will support and deputise for the VetHub1 manager during operation.
It is anticipated that the post holder will have experience in the field of microbiology and working with Hazard Group 2 pathogens. Experience of handling or managing Hazard Group 3 pathogens is desirable, but not essential as full documented training will be provided both within the University, and with external specialist providers. The post holder will help to author the Codes of Practice, risk assessments, and standard operating procedures for the facility. They will play a vital role in developing and coordinating the decontamination processes, waste streams, emergency procedures, training of facility users, and general Health and Safety requirements.
The post holder will assist with the procurement, delivery, and commissioning of new equipment and will form an inventory of all items of equipment. They will also be responsible for routine monitoring of the facility, including airflow and pressure checks, alarm testing, weekly running of taps, laundering of laboratory coats, ordering of consumables, and arranging and managing service visits.
The VetHub1 facility is part-funded by the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF) through the Welsh Government, to develop a state-of-the-art Containment Level 3 and Containment Level 2 facility for veterinary research in Wales. By aligning research expertise in veterinary disease with commercial enterprise in industry the facility will develop new diagnostic techniques and vaccines for a variety of animal and human diseases.
The facility consists of three laboratories capable of operating to Containment Level 3 and two laboratories designed to operate at Containment Level 2. The construction phase for VetHub1 is now complete and Aberystwyth University are now looking for a Technician to assist with the validation, commissioning and operation of the facility.
