About us
The mission of the Medical Research Council (MRC) is to improve human health through world-class research. We achieve this through a range of investments, including grants to individuals and long-term funding to MRC University Units and Institutes.
The advertised roles are new ones for MRC and will provide you with a unique opportunity to harness the diverse talent of our researchers, helping to build a coherent national identity for our funded researchers, regardless of their specialist domains. The technology for gathering and disseminating scientific information is rapidly evolving – for example through preprint servers and automated twitter feeds. MRC needs to make best use of these new tools to share the outputs of the research we fund.
Responsibilities:
We have two positions available, that will cover the following areas of responsibility:
Strategic Stakeholder Engagement Role 1:
- Co-develop a strong and coherent national identity (for example setting standards for training and research culture) for the MRC’s network of Units and Centres and their researchers through regular visits and follow-up engagement
- Generate science and policy content for MRC twitter, linked-in and other social media
- Work with MRC programme managers and heads of theme to ensure MRC website is up to date
- Collate and share links to MRC-funded scientific research articles
- Generate content for monthly newsletter highlighting MRC funding opportunities and advice to applicants
- Develop a pipeline of researchers who are willing to be interviewed or write blogs about their research
- Liaise effectively with UKRI communications and policy teams.
Strategic Stakeholder Engagement Role 2:
- Co-develop a strong and coherent national identity (for example setting standards for training, and research culture) for the MRC’s network of Units and Centres and their researchers through regular visits and follow-up engagement
- Create and curate a list of MRC-funded researchers who can provide expert advice to government and other bodies
- Encourage nominations for the annual MRC Millennium Medal award
- Generate the programme for the annual MRC Directors’ meeting
- Manage annual events for MRC funded postdocs and PhD students
- Liaise effectively with UKRI communications team.
