Dr. Oliveira received certificates of an undergraduate medical degree, residence in human pathology and master degree in experimental pathology, from Federal of Bahia University, Brazil, in 1980’s. He also did a PhD in immunology at University Colloge of London UCL), United Kingdon, and post-doctoral training in molecular biology at Cornell University, Ithaca, United States. During his PhD at UCL, he carried out studies on aetiology, pathogenesis and immune manipulation in murine autoimmune haemolytic anaemia. From 1997 up to the present time, he has been working as a researcher at Oswaldo Cruz Foundation, Brazilian Ministry of Health, aiming to develop a vaccine or immunotherapeutic method for canine visceral leishmaniasis. Recently, from 2016 onwards, he started a collaborative work in the field of arboviruses (Zika, Chikungunya and Dengue). He has experience with several techniques in the field of pathology, immunology and molecular biology, including molecular cloning, recombinant protein production in Escherichia coli and baculovirus-insect cell system.
