Recombinant BCG vaccines, TB drug target validation
SAMRC PhD Scholar based at Wits University – Centre of excellence for biomedical TB research (CBTBR) in Johannesburg, South Africa. Moagi studies the physiology of Mycobacterium tuberculosis with the aim to identify and validate novel TB drug targets and also apply this knowledge to develop novel TB vaccines. Specifically, he's developed a recombinant BCG vaccine with properties aimed at enhancing trained innate immune responses against infection with Mycobacterium tuberculosis. My broader research interests include the areas of communicable diseases, antimicrobial resistance, drug discovery and vaccine development.
